Friends of Sironka

Sironka's dance troupe operates as an educational and fundraising extension of Enkishon Nataana.  Each time Sironka tours with his dancers, he selects some new members to join a few returning members, thus ensuring that the opportunity to travel, to learn about Western culture, and to share their own culture is available to a large number of young Maasai men and women.

Sironka travels through the United States and oftentimes the United Kingdom with his dance troupe.  Friends of Sironka performs at universities or city venues for a fee of US, at elementary schools for a fee of US, and at churches free of charge.  Most venues in which the dance troupe performs provide further contributions in the form of housing the dancers while they are in the area or in helping them pay transportation costs to their next venue.  The dancers also sell traditional beadwork at their venues.  As an educational experience, they offer beadwork, batik painting, and hairbraiding workshops in addition to their music and dance performances.

All profit earned by the dance troupe is shared among the dancers.  Upon returning to their homes in Kenya, they are able to use the money to build more permanant homes than their traditional mud manyattas or to start their own local business or to send their children and younger siblings to school.  Please click on the Success Stories link to the left for examples of how dancers have used the money they've earned.
