My first encounter with the Friends of Sironka Dance Troupe
My name is Loretta, and I first met Sironka and his dance troupe in the spring of 2004. I am a student at Shoreline Community College just outside of Seattle, WA. I was a student in Dr. J’s History of African Art and Cultures class, and I had brought my camera on this day in anticipation of these amazing people Dr. J. had told us about. I fell in love with the Maasai from the moment I took this first photo of them, seen to the right, and I have worked with them ever since. In December of 2004 I was lucky enough to spend two weeks visiting them in their homes in Kenya. Never in my life have I felt so happy as when with the Maasai. They are a people that possess a positive energy that seems to have been lost in the high paced Western culture I know so well…a positive energy that seems to complete the picture of feelings of human peace and happiness.
Thus I became a Seattle contact and representative for Sironka and his people. I am currently in the works of establishing several supply and fund raising activities to assist Enkishon Nataana in serving the needs of the Maasai community.
